תיאור

הטומטיו הוא קרוב משפחתו של הגולדן ברי המפורסם והוא מפורסם לא פחות בגלל הסלסה ורדה הקלאסית שמכינים ממנו במקסיקו.

הוא צמח קטן מגיע בקושי לגובה מטר, חד שנתי, גדל מהר ומניב פירות כבר בשנתו הראשונה. אפשר לגדל ולקבל ממנו פירות אפילו באדנית שמונחת על חלון.

הפרי  מבשיל במשך זמן ארוך בחודשי הקיץ ומניב שפע פירות. גודלו נע בין 4 ל-7 ס”מ והוא גדל כשהוא עטוף ומוגן באריזה טבעית. יודעים כשהוא בשל כשה”אריזה” מתחילה להתייבש והפירות בוקעים מעט את האריזה. אפשר לקטוף כשהפרי ירוק וחמצמץ ואפשר לחכות עד שיקבל מתיקות עדינה ולאכול טרי.

צבעי הפרחים הם לבן, צהוב וירוק בהיר, ולצורך הנבה עשירה מומלץ לשתול שני שיחי פרי, כדי שיהיה מספיק סלסה לכולם.
